WISEFAKE is the project by Victor Zuo (sound) & Alice He (arts) based in Toronto, running since 2016. Zuo is member of Chinese synthpop duo Wanderlust which is formed in 2009. Compared with Wanderlust, wisefake is more likely an experiment in the mindset of electronic sound producing and equipment exploring.
Starting from the album 'Constants/constants', wisefake wiped out the previous habit of combining hardware and software in dance music creation, and instead adopted soundscape creation. The music starts from the content of Alice's design paintings, and expresses Zuo's understanding and expression of graphic content through the sound design with a large time span.
After the single 'wilketcreek' in November this year, wisefake released the sophomore album 'flowage/流動' on the independent label Jyugam today. The whole album is played and recorded with pure hardware. 'flowage/流動' is a half-hour soundscape a fictional scene which is depicting a pink dolphin, surrounded by shells and the eyes of other creatures hidden in the night sky, flying through the clouds and out of the sea into the air as a UFO, which is the cover art of this album and painted by Alice.
